Some Reasons Coastal Property in York County, Maine Is Desirable

!: Some Reasons Coastal Property in York County, Maine Is Desirable

There are many different kinds of property out there. They all have their pluses and minuses and since what constitutes a plus or a minus varies from person to person, each of us have to figure out what works best for our situation.

If you have the means, coastal property in York County offers some uniquely Maine benefits. I'm going to go over what I believe to be some of the of the biggest reasons that make property in this area so desirable. These reasons also happen to be very natural to the area.

The Atlantic Ocean: This might seem like a given but let me explain. The ocean off York County does some interesting things that oceans in other parts of the country or world don't necessarily do. In the summer, the ocean off the coast of York County, Maine never really warms up too much. While this isn't conducive to swimming, it does act as an air conditioner on those oppressively hot days. Much of the time, a sea breeze develops in the afternoon and provides coastal residents with a cooling effect while inland communities continue to roast. That combined with the sweet, fresh smell of the sea air can make for a euphoric experience.

And it's not just in the summer the ocean works its weather altering magic. In the winter, temperatures can drop to very low levels in this area. The ocean though, due to its salinity and relationship with the rest of the world's oceans, always lags behind. Because of this, the temperature near the coast here is almost always warmer in winter than inland. And when it snows, the coast usually sees a switch over to rain instead of all snow, lessening the amount that needs to be shoveled or plowed. Granted, it doesn't always work out this way (just like it isn't always cooler at the coast in summer - there are exceptions) but the majority of the time, it does and it affects more than just personal comfort.

One other thing it does is save energy. In the winter, it is often less costly to heat your house since the outside air isn't quite as cold as it is inland. In the summer, the opposite is true. With a sea breeze, a home on the York County coast is much easier to cool than a similar home inland. Overall, it's not a bad deal!

Now there are other reasons the Maine coast is a great place to live that aren't weather related. There is a lot of beach to be found in York county. Old Orchard Beach is among the largest and most popular in the entire state. And let's not forget one famous York County resident that's worth mentioning. George H.W. Bush does indeed spend a great deal of his time at his coastal home during the warmer months. It's always a draw for tourists and can create a nice conversation piece. After all, he lives just down the coast from you. I'd say that's worth talking about.

It wouldn't be fair of me to leave out a big downside here: cost to own. Coastal property in general, as I'm sure you know, is pretty pricy. However, if you've spent any time at the York County, Maine coast it doesn't take long to see why the cost is as high as it is. If you can afford it, go for it. I'm pretty sure you won't regret it.
